About AwwURL
AwwURL answers three questions people ask several times a day: is this website down, is it safe, and where does this link go. It does that with its own checks rather than by repeating what other sites say. Every status page is backed by live requests from several countries, every trust score lists the signals behind it, and every link expansion shows the full redirect chain.
What the site does
- Status checks. We request the homepage of a site from our own server and from check locations on several continents, read the service's official status feed where one exists, and count visitor reports against the usual rate for that hour. The index currently holds 20,012 websites and grows every day.
- Trust checks. A score out of 100 built from public records: domain age and registrar, web history, company registries in the UK and the US, blocklists, lookalike detection against well-known brands, what the site itself says, and what visitors have reported. Every weight is published on the Method page.
- Link tools. A link expander that follows every redirect of a short link before you open it, a QR code reader that decodes the code in your browser, and an email sender check that reads SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.
Where the data comes from
Registration data comes from the RDAP service of each registry. Web history comes from the Internet Archive. Company data comes from Companies House (UK), the SEC EDGAR index (US) and Wikidata. Blocklist lookups use Google Safe Browsing and URLhaus by abuse.ch. Popularity uses the Tranco research list. Official status comes from the status page each service publishes. None of it is guessed, and each page says when it was last refreshed.
Who runs it
AwwURL is run by AwwURL, a small independent publisher that has held the awwurl.com domain since 2021. It is not connected to any of the companies whose websites appear on it. Verdicts are produced by software and are not reviewed by hand before publication; if one is wrong, the Contact page explains how to dispute it and we correct mistakes quickly.
How the site is paid for
The tools are free to use and need no account. The site is supported by advertising and, on some pages, by links to products we recommend, for which we may receive a commission. Advertisers have no influence over any score or status.
